History

The Special national orchestra is consisted of 21 singers and instrumentalists with special conditions (mental, physical, visual and autism) who have gathered from all around the country to form the first special national orchestra of Iran.

Founder of the orchestra

Maryam Gilasian

The director and leader of the orchestra, Maryam Gilasian, has an M.A. degree in Psychology of Exceptional Children and also has graduated from conservatoire in piano. She has founded the first vocational training center for boys with intellectual disability in Gorgan and currently manages it.

Start a long way

The idea for formation the Special national orchestra of Iran was conceived after ten years of Behkoush band’s activity and observing the wonderful effects of arts therapy on capacities of individuals with special needs. Hence to actualize this idea, she made lots of journeys to different cities of Iran; and finally, after a year, 21 people, from Gorgan, Rasht, Nour, Babolsar, Shiraz, Mashhad, Kamyaran of Kurdistan, and Gonbad was chosen as members of singing and musicianship sections of the band.

After two years of practicing, this band had its first performance on November, 2018, in Hozeh-honari Soureh theater in Tehran; and great artists such as Mr. Loris Tjeknavorian and other great artists of the country have supported the band by their presence among the audience.

Beside the founder and leader of the band, colleague music teachers in other cities, managers of rehabilitation centers, psychologist, nutritionist, makeup artist, sound Engineer and assistances, help the band in all practices and performances.

Important goals of the band’s formation are consisted of:

  • helping to maintain the world peace.
  • to empower individuals with special needs and show the public their abilities in order to make a positive public opinion about them.
  • to create occupation for individuals with special needs.
  • strengthening self-confidence and self-respect and creating an adequate social identity for individuals with special needs.
